New Irish Electric Duo SYLK dropped their debut single ‘Am I Alone’
Irish electric duo SYLK have dropped their debut single ‘Am I Alone’ which rose to the top of the Irish Electronic chart on iTunes on February 4th 2017 and is currently climbing the top 40s of the overall iTunes charts.
SYLK was formed in 2016 with band members Bebhinn McDonnell (sound) and Taylor Doyle (vocals) and showcases a distorted black and white sound along with noise, harmony and entrancing visuals.
With influences from the visual arts and a bass heavy and distorted sound SYLK are planning to release an EP in May this year.
SYLK – Influences
We caught up with SYLK to find out a bit about their influences, their sound and their aspirations.
“We want to create audio-visual experiences with our music,” Bebhinn and Taylor wrote.
“We showcase our music with strong visual treatments including light installations and abstract projections, this is an integral part of the SYLK identity.
“We draw inspiration from art forms outside of music, especially visual arts, sculpture, fashion and dance. Musically, we are inspired every day in every genre, from electro acoustic experimental new music to pop to world music.
“Drawing on lived experiences, we created our signature sound and carved our aesthetics through iterations of extensive experimentation. Our sound is bass heavy, distorted, rhythmic, cinematic and lyrically dark.
SYLK – Upcoming Shows
“We have upcoming shows at a number of the Irish festivals and are hoping to exhibit at venues such as Whelans, Workmans and the Grand Social and at events organised by creative collectives like Hunt & Gather. We have our sights firmly set on exhibiting one of our installations in IMMA.
“Our LGBT idols include David Bowie, Prince, Roisín Murphy and Lady Gaga, they have truly inspired generations of music, fashion and art.
“We hope to be performing at an upcoming We-Bloom session in the Workmans and we are very excited to be launching our EP in the Grand Social in May (date to be confirmed).”
